Sam Houston is back on the market for a head coach for the second time since 2024 following the firing of Phil Longo, who lasted just 20 games in Huntsville. The Bearkats were a mess on and off the field under his leadership, causing the brass at Sam Houston to pull the plug before the end of his second season.
Sam Houston is currently in its fourth season at the FBS level. The Bearkats are 16-29 over that time, winning 10 games, including the New Orleans Bowl in 2024 under Keeler. They won the FCS national championship in the spring of 2021 before moving up in the 2023 season.
