There are five FBS head coaching vacancies by Halloween and two are in Texas after Dave Aranda (Baylor) and Phil Longo (Sam Houston) were dismissed since last Sunday. Aranda was in Year 7 and was perpetually on the hot seat in Waco since 2023. Longo, who was hired in late 2024, only lasted 20 games in Huntsville before the Bearkats moved on.

There are typically two to four coaching changes in Texas per cycle. Steve Sarkisian, Sonny Dykes, Rhett Lashlee, and Joey McGuire were hired ahead of 2022. Mike Elko, Willie Fritz, and Scotty Walden were hired ahead of 2024. Last year was unusually slow in the state with only North Texas opening.
