Klein 2029 LB Cash Hines (6'2, 200) is collecting offers at a rapid pace. Ohio State, Texas, Texas Tech, Kentucky, Arizona and TCU have all jumped in recently, joining Baylor, Houston, Texas A&M, SMU and more.

“It means a lot to me for them to have so much trust in me at a young age,” Hines said. “Most people work their whole life until senior year, and they gave it to me as a sophomore. I appreciate it.”

Ask Klein head coach David Perez what makes him special, and the answer starts between the ears.

“Cash is another kid that we can put wherever,” Perez said. “He’s super smart, probably one of the smartest individuals I’ve ever been around at such an early age, and he’s super coachable.”

“He’s the kind of kid that if he makes a mistake, he can recognize it and actually tell you what happened and what he should have done, even if it’s not his primary position. It’s pretty impressive.”

The Bearkats, who boast one of the state's best defenses, have built around him.

“It kind of revolves around him,” Perez said. “We’ve molded it to where he’s the voice on the field. He’s the additional coach that we get to have.”

Klein will also use him on the other side of the ball at tight end. “We’re definitely going to utilize him on the opposite side of the ball,” Perez said.

Hines credits preparation for his success.

“The better you know the game, the faster you can read,” he said. “I know the in and out of it.”

“Me being a team leader and being there for the team and communicating with my team, that’s one of the ways we keep winning and succeeding. And me putting in extra work every day just to be the best person I can be.”

Hines patterns his game after Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton, who starred at Notre Dame.

“I just like to be aggressive and be versatile for my team,” Hines said.

Hines is staying focused on the programs already recruiting him. Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, SMU and Baylor have caught his eye so far. Miami is a school he likes, but he isn’t chasing programs that haven’t offered.

“I’m just talking to the schools that have,” he said.
