Predicting the Biggest Week 1 Games in Texas: 6A-5A
Killeen Harker Heights at Hutto - WATCH LIVE ON TEXAN LIVE: If you like points this might be the game for you as two of Central Texas’ most explosive offenses meet up in what should be a fun affair in Hutto. Both teams come into this one fresh off making the area playoffs a year ago and both teams enter 2026 with high expectations with good talent returning. Harker Heights’ Hudson Humble enters his third year as a starter; he threw for nearly 3,500 yards a year ago and 36 touchdowns. His top target is UTSA WR commit Ryan Taylor, who hauled in 16 scores; In my view, Taylor is one of the state’s most underrated WR prospects. The Knights are athletic at the back end of the defense, but they have key questions that need to be answered up front on both sides of the ball. For Hutto, it is the debut of head coach Casey Walraven, who joins the Hippos after a wildly successful stint at his alma mater, Alvarado. Hutto fits Walraven’s style in a big way as Walraven is known for fast-paced and explosive offensive attacks. WR Dylan Owens, a Western Kentucky commit, is one of two headliners on offense along with two-way star WR/S Jaiden Fields, who is an Oklahoma commit. OL Jayden Mack is a monster in the trenches and will sign a FBS scholarship in December as well. LB Hunter Frenette tallied over 100 tackles and leads the defense. The question marks for Hutto will be who will win a very competitive QB competition and who will step up on the defensive line. This game simply comes down to which defense can either force turnovers or generate stops. Hutto has the best playmaker in the game in Fields and a bit more experience to lean on in this one. Stepp’s Pick: Hutto by 5
