ARLINGTON -- Back when Jayton High School honored its 1984 state championship team before a regular season game against Valley, head coach Josh Stanaland had his boys turn around and look at the group of legends standing on the track. Then, he talked about legacy.

Stanaland knew early in the season his group had the chance to do what those men did back in the 1984 and '85 seasons, win a state championship and end the program's 39-year drought.
