Marquee Matchup: CC Veterans Memorial at PSJA North

Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (3-1, 2-0) at PSJA North (3-0, 1-0):

It’s a Thursday night showdown in the Valley as a share of first place in 15-5A Division I is on the line as we get a rematch of the 2022 regional final played between these two South Texas powers. After getting drilled in the season opener by Corpus Christi Miller, Veterans Memorial has bounced back nicely with three straight wins and they’ve dominated in district play outscoring opponents 114-0, including last week’s 77-0 rout of Donna North. PSJA North has been among the best teams in the Valley the past three years and many predicted the Raiders to take a step back in 2024. However, Marcus Kaufman’s squad has other ideas as they are off to a 3-0 start, in their last outing the Raiders took care of Donna North 58-0. RB Ethan Guerra leads the Raiders physical rushing attack as he operates behind a big and physical offensive line and the Raiders physical mentality permeates to the defensive side of the ball as well. Vets is still trying to find their identity after losing a good senior class and seeing their star young QB elect to play just basketball. They also haven’t played anyone near PSJA North’s level and the game is in Pharr, a lot is working against Vets going into this one, so we are going with the Raiders.
