Sam Houston is hiring Julian Wilson as defensive back coach and Reggie Johnson as linebacker coach, sources tell Dave Campbell’s. Wilson is a former NFL and Oklahoma cornerback who arrives from Abilene Christian. He was previously at Texas Tech. Johnson was the inside linebacker’s coach at Missouri State who was promoted to co-defensive coordinator in 2023.

Sam Houston hired Skyler Cassity from Abilene Christian to become defensive coordinator in January. At 29 years old, he’ll be the youngest defensive coordinator in FBS. The unit was the fourth-best scoring defense in CUSA, allowing 26.2 points per game.
