UIW quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. took the college football world by storm with highlight-reel plays while leading the Cardinals to a historic season and an appearance in the national semifinals. Saturday, Scott added another trophy to his collection when he was named the Walter Payton Award winner.
The Walter Payton Award is given to the most outstanding offensive player in FCS and is considered the “Heisman Trophy” of the FCS ranks. Payton was a standout at Jackson State before becoming one of the greatest running backs in NFL history with the Chicago Bears. The award was first presented to Kenny Gamble of Colgate in 1987.
