Stafford (6-3, 3-2) at Bay City (6-3, 3-2): Second place is in play in 12-4A Division I this week as Stafford heads south to take on Bay City. Both of these teams are hard to figure out as they are both very talented with plamakers, but they’ve had some results that flat out make you scratch your head. Stafford has lost two in a row after last week’s 28-11 loss to El Campo, the Spartans offense at home couldn’t get anything going against an all of a sudden improved El Campo defense. Bay City after their own two-game skid earlier In district play has bounced back nicely with back-to-back wins over Needville and Iowa Colony. Last week was tough though as the Blackcats barely escaped a young and talented Iowa Colony squad, beating the Pioneers 28-27. BCHS rolled up over 400 yards rushing in the win led by Ayden Smith and Jada Andrews who both ran for two touchdowns. The key in this game will be defense and consistency, and Stafford, most notably on the defensive side of the ball gets the edge in what should be a close one. Stepp’s Pick: Stafford by 3
Midland Greenwood (5-4, 2-1) at Wichita Falls Hirschi (6-2, 2-1): The strange race in 3-4A Division II comes to a close this week as Midland Greenwood and Wichita Falls hook up with the winner getting the district title and the loser potentially falling to as far as fourth place. Greenwood last week was upset at home against Graham, falling to the Steers 21-14. Aaron Fikes ran for two touchdowns in the loss, but Greenwood’s offense struggled throwing the ball with just four passing yards. Hirschi rolled past struggling Sweetwater last week 53-7, the Huskies were led by USC commit A’Marion Peterson who ran for 267 yards and three touchdowns, while SMU commit WR Jamarion Carroll had five receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Hirschi after their bumps in the road mid-season is rounding into form and playing more consistent football and that’s bad news for the rest of their counterparts in Region I heading into the playoffs. Stepp’s Pick: Wichita Falls Hirschi by 21
