Houston’s Tune, Rogers named Conference Player of the Week

Houston Cougars quarterback Clayton Tune was named AAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the comeback win against the Memphis Tigers, 33-32. Defensive back Jayce Rogers also picked up weekly honors as he was named AAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Tune led the Cougars' offense to three fourth quarter touchdowns after being down by 19 points entering the final 15 minutes. Tune was 36 of 57 passing for 366 yards and four total touchdowns with one interception.

After the Tigers extended their lead in the fourth quarter, 29-13, Rogers took the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 10 following the missed two-point conversion. Rogers would also tally five tackles on defense. Rogers became the 14th player in American Athletic Conference history to record a 100-yard kickoff return. The Cougars get back to .500 in regular season play just in time for their bye week. They will be back in action on Oct. 22 when they travel to Annapolis, MD when they face off against the Navy Midshipmen. For Memphis, they suffer only their second loss of the season and the first in conference play. The Tigers will look to get back on track when they play at East Carolina on Oct. 15.
