The Blitz: Blowout wins by SFA and MSU sparks questions
Record projections for 19 Texas sub-FBS teams, and Tarleton’s Beau Allen, Adrian Guzman, UTPB’s Hayden Kelly, Southwestern’s Landry Gilpin, and WBU’s Gabriel Tito earn conference superlatives.
Two teams combined to score 175 points while shutting out their opponents last week. The 98-0 win by Stephen F. Austin over an NAIA foe garnered the headlines, while Midwestern State’s 77-0 win over fellow Lone Star Conference member Simon Fraser set a program record for the largest margin of victory yet was largely ignored.
When the final score reflects a bloodbath, the first question is whether the teams intentionally tried to run up the score. I understand why someone’s thoughts go toward a team deliberately running up the score because it does happen. However, neither of these games seems to be a case of intentionally running up the score.
