Despite the Houston Cougars losing against Texas Tech this past Saturday there are still positive things to point out. Houston defensive end Derek Parish was named American Athletic Conference defensive player of the week after setting two AAC records in Lubbock this past Saturday. Parish had 4.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. Parish’s 4.5 sacks broke the previous record of East Carolina’s Montese Overton in 2015 and SMU’s Justin Lawler in 2017. This is a Houston team that lost former first team All-American Athletic defensive end Logan Hall to the 2022 NFL draft, but the Cougars pass rush isn’t missing a beat
The Cougars next game will be at home this coming Saturday at 3:00pm (CT) against the currently undefeated Kansas Jayhawks who are off to their first 2-0 start since 2011.
