Baylor Bears quarterback Gerry Bohanon enters transfer portal as Blake Shapen wins job

Baylor lost a quarterback to the transfer portal when former starter Gerry Bohanon’s name appeared. Bohanon started double-digit games for the Bears during a 12-2 2021 season that culminated in a Big 12 and Sugar Bowl championship. Bohanon missed the final three games of the regular season due to injury, including the Big 12 Championship win over Oklahoma State. He returned to lead Baylor to a Sugar Bowl in over Ole Miss.
Blake Shapen stepped up in Bohanon’s absence last season and won the starting job for 2022 during spring practices. Shapen started three games in 2021, completing 72 percent of his passes – nine percent higher than Bohanon – for 596 yards and five touchdowns to zero interceptions. Shapen completed 17 consecutive passes to start the Big 12 Championship game. Kyron Drones will serve as his backup.
