JUST IN: Houston accepts invitation to join Big 12

The landscape of college sports feels like a game of musical chairs. For the University of Houston, the music stopped in time to grab a seat at the Big 12’s growing table on Friday afternoon when the Cougars joined BYU, Cincinnati and UCF in accepting invitations to join the league. The music started in the summer when Texas and Oklahoma announced their eventual move to the SEC.

“We are very excited, very comfortable and very grateful,” University of Houston president Renu Khator said in a press conference via Zoom on Friday. “I’m sure we’ll make the University of Houston, the city of Houston, the state of Texas, and the Big 12 Conference very proud.”
