Week 14 Mega Preview: Breaking down & predicting the biggest Texas high school football games

Euless Trinity (5-1, 4-0) at Haltom (5-2, 5-0): The district title in 3-6A is on the line as Trinity looks to avenge back to back losses to Haltom. The Trojans appear to be playing their best football of the year after blowing away Weatherford, 59-7, a week ago. Ollie Gordon led a balanced rushing attack with 154 yards and three touchdowns, while the Trojans defense totally dominated Weatherford. Haltom had an epic comeback last week as they rallied from a 31-7 fourth quarter deficit to stun Saginaw Boswell, 35-31, to remain unbeaten in district play. ATH Jace Washington took over the game in fourth quarter scoring three of the four Buffaloes touchdowns as he finished the night with 181 yards from scrimmage and the three fourth quarter scores. Haltom’s had Trinity’s number the past two seasons and the Trojans have definitely had this one circled on their calendar. The Trojans look to make a statement Friday afternoon and lock up the district title. Stepp’s Pick: Euless Trinity by 17

Cy-Fair (9-0) vs Cypress Bridgeland (9-0): Bragging rights and bragging rights only are on the line in this one as Cy-Fair ISD’s top two teams meet up in a final non-district game before each takes a week off before the playoffs. It’s a contrast of styles as Cy-Fair, led by RB LJ Johnson, likes to play smashmouth football and run right at you, while Bridgeland and their up-tempo spread offense likes to score points in bunches. Cy-Fair closed out their district slate last week with another dominant win as the Bobcats rolled past Spring Woods, 48-3. Cy-Fair’s defense has been lights out the last four weeks allowing just a total of nine points, but the Bridgeland Bears offense will easily be their biggest test of the season. Bridgeland dominated Cy Falls last week 41-0 as QB Conner Weigman tossed three touchdown passes and the Bears defense pitched their first shutout of the season. How each team approaches a game that really doesn’t mean a ton before the playoffs will be interesting here. With that being said, Cy-Fair may look at this game more like a scrimmage because they are the established power with the state championship. Bridgeland, in just their third varsity season, is trying to establish themselves as the new power in Cy-Fair and will likely view this game in a much more serious light. Stepp’s Pick: Cypress Bridgeland by 8
