Under the guidance of head coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, the Tigers are playing some great basketball.

ISO Spotlight: Texas Southern's Upward Trajectory

Texas Southern has an excellent women's basketball program. The Tigers have finished at or above .500 every year since the 2011-2012 season. But things cooled off last season and the team finished the year at 11-11, after which the team's head coach, Johnetta Hayes, left to become the head coach for the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. That left TSU in a precarious place.

Enter — or re-enter, rather, as she had previously coached the Tigers for one season — basketball legend Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. The former Houston Comets star is a familiar name to anyone who pays attention to the WNBA or has spent any time paying attention to sports in the city of Houston, and Texas Southern thought that Cooper-Dyke would be the best person to lead the program into the future.
