Carthage Earns State Title Number Seven

In a heavyweight showdown to open the day Thursday, it was Carthage’s big boys up front that proved to be the difference as the Bulldogs got their seventh state title with a 42-28 win over Waco La Vega. Junior RB Mason Courtney ran for 232 yards and three touchdowns, while WR Kelvontay Dixon had 120 receiving yards and three touchdowns and added in 32 yards on the ground for the Bulldogs. Carthage in the second and third quarter scored on six straight drives and took total control of the game at 35-14 in the third quarter and never looked back. Carthage’s run the past four years has been nothing short of incredible. Since losing back-to-back games in Week 4 and 5 in 2016, the Bulldogs are 57-1 with the lone loss coming in the state semifinals to Liberty Hill in 2018.
