Mart Earns Three-Peat

In the opening game of the day, the Mart Panthers earned their third straight state title with a hard fought 25-20 win over Hamlin. For Mart, it was also their eighth state title in school history, but the Panthers got pushed by team in their own division for the first time since dropping to 2A-Division II. Hamlin scored on their opening two drives and jumped out to a 14-6 lead, but Mart’s defense clamped down after that and didn’t allow a score until late in the game. Mart forced three turnovers, two of which foiled potential Hamlin scoring drives in the second quarter, while Klyderion Campbell’s 33-yard interception return for a touchdown proved to be the game winning score for the Panthers. Junior RB Roddrell Freeman earned offensive MVP honors rushing for 173 yards and three touchdowns. Campbell was named defensive MVP for the Panthers.
