The Lamar Cardinals will not return head coach Mike Schultz after three seasons at the helm. Schultz led the Cardinals to a 13-22 record, including their first appearance in the FCS Playoffs a season ago.

Lamar football coach Mike Schultz will not return to the program after three seasons, the university announced on Monday. The university will embark on a national coaching search.
Schultz posted a 13-22 record in three seasons as head coach. The Cardinals followed up their first FCS playoff appearance in program history with a 4-8 campaign in 2019, culminating with a five-game losing streak to close the year. A 27-3 loss to rival McNeese State in the last game of the year was the final straw.
