There are some fun games coming up this weekend that involve mid-major schools in Texas facing Big 12 schools. Houston plays Oklahoma. UT-Arlington plays Kansas State. That Mavericks/Wildcats game in particular offers a good test for us to see how good UTA really is this year. But writing about either of those games wouldn't give me space to also write some about this past weekend's Rice/A&M game and about Rice's chances of rebounding against Oklahoma State.
The Rice Owls are 2-2 on the season after consecutive losses to SMU and Texas A&M. I had them pegged to be at 3-1 at this point, but the Owl offense has sputtered at times, especially in that SMU game as they scored just 43 points against the Mustangs. But Sunday's loss to the Aggies was an encouraging game, as Rice had a great shot to pull off the upset before falling by one, 62-61.
