Houston Football: Frustration mounting for Cougars after fifth close loss
The Houston Cougars gave the SMU Mustangs everything they could handle in a 34-31 loss on Saturday at TDECU Stadium, but the Cougars walk away frustrated after gifting the Mustangs two early touchdowns.

HOUSTON -- Dixie Wooten sat on the bench with his hands on his head as time wound down and rain started to trickle from the sky. Grant Stuard silently mouthed expletives to himself as he walked off the field. D’Eriq King walked slowly to dap up his friends on SMU’s roster while wearing street clothes in the fourth missed game of his redshirt season.
The Cougars knew they had their shot against the lone 8-0 team in college football, the No. 16 SMU Mustangs, even in an unforgettably strange year for the program. Highly-touted SMU star Shane Buechele had his worst game of the season, barely completing 50 percent of his passes. The Coogs got the ball back for a final drive with under a minute remaining and a chance to tie the game.
