Terrell lands Marvin Sedberry, Jr.
Wednesday afternoon Terrell ISD named Marvin Sedberry, Jr. as its next head football coach, Sedberry spent the past five seasons leading Class 6A Garland Naaman Forest and is familiar with the area spending time in his youth in Greenville where his father had three separate stints as head coach. Sedberry in his first two seasons at Naaman Forest won just a single game, but the past three years led the Rangers to the playoffs, including an 8-3 season in 2017. He’ll get his chance in a one-school ISD to control the program from top to bottom after his first three head coaching stops were in multi-school ISDs (Fort Worth Poly, Baytown Lee and Naaman Forest). Sedberry has shown the ability to turn programs around and Terrell has struggled the past two years, but it wasn’t that long ago the Tigers posted an 11-2 mark either. Priority No. 1 for Sedberry will be giving direction to the program as rumors are rampant that two of Terrell’s best players may have transferred out.
Beeville Jones brings back Chris Soza
In the first of two homecomings of sorts this week, Beeville Jones was able to lure Chris Soza away from Medina Valley after a lengthier-than-anticipated coaching search. Soza has 23 years of experience as head coach with stops at Mathis, Beeville Jones, Alice and Medina Valley on his resume with a 167-100 overall record. He was at Beeville from 2004-2008 and led the Trojans to a 37-24 record, including an 11-3 mark in 2007. Soza has spent the past two seasons Medina Valley where he posted a 13-9 record.
