ACU's playoff hopes remain alive after seven turnovers and just shy of a century of points.
ABILENE -- A failed two-point conversion attempt with 1:34 remaining in the game proved to be the difference as Abilene Christian pulled off a thrilling 49-47 victory over Northwestern State at beautiful Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium. The Demons were forced to go for the two-point attempt after Austyn Fendrick’s extra-point kick sailed wide right with 3:09 left in the fourth quarter.
Both teams combined to commit seven turnovers in the game as Northwestern State scored touchdowns on all four ACU turnovers to keep within striking distance throughout the afternoon. The Wildcats intercepted three passes in the game as Qua’Shawn Washington returned the third interception 37 yards for the first defensive touchdown for ACU since Nov. 2014. Jeremiah Chambers registered 11 tackles including one and half tackles for loss to lead a Wildcats defense that only allowed 33 yards rushing on 33 attempts and produced four sacks on the afternoon.
