Small College Recap: Muffed PAT in OT lifts No. 8 Tarleton State past No. 10 Midwestern State
Texans all but clinch playoff spot with key win over Mustangs
WICHITA FALLS — A muffed snap on an extra-point attempt in overtime was the difference tonight as No. 8 Tarleton State defeated No. 10 Midwestern State 35-34 in an exhilarating game that had the intensity of an NCAA DII playoff game from start to finish.
Special teams and turnovers are usually the deciding factors when two teams are closely matched, and tonight was no exception. Tarleton State missed an extra-point early in the second quarter that forced them to convert a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. The Texans also had two fumbles on the night with one fumble preventing a possible scoring opportunity at the MSU Texas four-yard line and the second fumble led to a Mustangs touchdown in the second quarter. Midwestern State missed a 41-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter before the muffed snap that ended the game in overtime.
