Shala Dobbins is the type of player to build a program around. So is Jhyrah Cobb. The SWAC’s Newcomer of the Year and top freshman respectively from a year ago, should make the transition of a new coach go smoothly for the Prairie View A&M women, who reached the conference tournament semifinals last season.
As for the new Panthers coach, Sandy Pugh is no stranger to the SWAC. Or to winning. In replacing Ravon Justice, Pugh spent the previous 18 years at Southern University, where she led the Jaguars to seven outright or shared SWAC regular season titles, including this past season, and four NCAA Tournament appearances.
