After posting their second straight winning season, UTA Lady Mavs head coach Krista Gerlich replaced a strong senior class that had graduated with the top incoming signing class in the Sun Belt Conference. Those additions are keeping the excitement level high in Arlington once again as UTA looks to break through with a conference title and trip to the NCAA Tournament.
The Lady Mavericks should be outstanding in the backcourt with experience and depth returning. Some of that depth was created due to an injury in the third game of the season to 2016-2017 Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Cierra Johnson. Johnson, who was a senior a year ago, was granted a medical redshirt and returns to lead the UTA backcourt and if she continues to improve on offense, she could be one of the top two-way guards in the country.
