North Texas 58, Incarnate Word 16: Mean Green tunes up, sets sights ahead

Ho-hum, another brilliant performance from North Texas’ diminutive-but-deadly quarterback Mason Fine. A week after slashing SMU’s secondary to shreds, Fine followed by filleting an overmatched Incarnate Word defense to the tune of 418 yards and four touchdowns. He made all the throws, but was especially deadly on the deep ball — of his 25 completions, 11 of them went for more than 15 yards. And he’s established his favorites, too: Rico Bussey and Jalen Guyton earned 24 of his 40 targets, with Bussey catching three of his four touchdown passes. It’s still early, but through two games, there’s no better offensive player in Texas than Fine.
