Head coach Everett Withers tabs the Silsbee native over Gipson, Vitt
Texas State announced that sophomore quarterback Willie Jones III will start Saturday's season-opener against Rutgers on Monday morning.
The Silsbee native was selected over redshirt freshman Jaylen Gipson (Mexia) and true freshman Tyler Vitt (San Antonio MacArthur). Jones played in 10 games in 2017 and threw for 281 yards and ran for 168 yards. Jones is head coach Everett Withers’ first underclassmen starting QB since taking over at Texas State.
