2018 Division III 7-on-7 State Tournament Preview

Sixteen of the state’s smallest schools will compete in the first-ever Division III bracket at the 21st annual Adidas Texas 7-on-7 State Championships. Schools from Class 3A Division II and Class 2A will descend on College Station to play in this inaugural tournament featuring the smallest schools.

The tournament format will be different as all 16 teams will move to the single elimination bracket on the second day, and pool play on Thursday will simply be for seeding on the second day of competition. The biggest thing to keep an eye on with the small schools is depth on Day 2. Playing up to seven games in the two-day competition will take its toll. Another interesting note is half the field is comprised of first-time qualifiers for the state tournament, with Sonora, Alpine, Lexington, Deweyville, Falls City and Wellington as teams returning from 2017.
