DQ Big Game of the Week preview: Carthage vs. La Vega
The final DQ Big Game of the Week of 2017 is a doozy, and it'll be a packed house at the Ford Center in Frisco.

There are a locker room full of great match-ups this weekend for the UIL state semifinals, but none might be more evenly matched than our DQBGOTW tilt. The Carthage Bulldogs are the top-ranked team in the state in Class 4A, unbeaten, untied and unbelievable. Coach Scott Surratt has his ‘Dawgs running wild, averaging 46 points per game. CHS is looking for not only back-to-back titles, but also their 6th state championship in the last 10 years!
But is it possible they could be considered the underdog? Folks at La Vaga High School ain’t scared. That’s because the Pirates are 42-and-1 over the last 3 seasons with a state title of their own in 2015. The Pirate ‘MODOC’ defense gives up only 10 points per; better than their ’15 state run while averaging 43 a game themselves on offense in 2017. And oh by the way, that offense is run by the coach's kid: Jamal Williams, a coach on the field, and papa Willie has all the confidence in the world that his boy can get it done for what would be the 2nd title in 3 years for La Vega.
