DQ Big Game of the Week preview: Manvel vs. Temple

This week’s DQ Big Game of the Week is certainly bigger than it would have been, except Manvel might have been working all off-season, pre-season and regular season for this very match-up — or rematch. The Temple Wildcats came in to their fourth round contest last year as underdogs against a loaded Manvel squad; they do again this year. The ‘Cats didn’t have nearly the DI talent as Manvel last year; same this time. Manvel was higher ranked, more explosive offense, and to steal a phrase from ‘Seinfeld’: Yada, yada, yada; Temple won the game.

The Wildcats have a bit of history on the football field and a blue-collar work ethic. And every little Wildcat growing up wants to be a part of that, and more importantly, wants to ‘contribute’ to that. Temple made it all the way to the state championship last year before John Stephen Jones led Highland Park to a 16-7 hard fought win. Still, THS has won 47 games over the last 4 years and that's after winning just 40 over the previous DECADE (40-61). Last year’s win over Manvel may have seemed like an ‘upset’ to many, but not in Central Texas.
