DQ Big Game of the Week preview: Mart vs. DeLeon
It's a clash of Top 10 teams and the winner will be a favorite to reach the state championship game, and the DQ crew will be on hand.

This week’s DQ Big Game — for the third week of the playoffs — could have easily found a home in Jerry World with a big plaque on the line. It’s a small town contest with big-time teams. The DeLeon Bearcats are the seventh-ranked team in Class 2A, and feature not one but TWO players with 2,000 yards of offense and yet they are NOT the favorites; that’s because the ‘Cats have to take on the Panthers of Mart. MHS is ranked 5th in the state coming in, sporting a perfect 12-0 record. And this Mart team averages; not has scored once or twice, but AVERAGES 60 points a game!
Defense is staunch at both schools as well, as neither gives up more than 9 points a game. But DeLeon thinks they have an answer to the ‘wall’ Mart defense: Variety. Bearcats head coach David Yeagor has his dual-threat son Kevin at quarterback running the show. Kevin has already gone well over 2,000 total yards and is looking to add to his stats as the team piles up wins. But the ‘Cats got better this offseason, much better, and it had nothing to do with hitting the weights or running track. Anthony Rangel was a move-in player this offseason from Sanford-Fritch and MAN has he made himself at home. Rangel ALSO has 2,000 total yards and the combination has been deadly for anyone trying to stop the ‘Cats from clawing their way into the end zone. With the run AND pass game purring, the Bearcats are averaging 50 points per game.
