It's the playoffs, so the DQ Big Game of the Week is somehow even bigger! Neil Beasley and co. are checking out a DFW showdown in the bi-district round.

DQ Big Game of the Week preview: McKinney vs. Southlake Carroll

Our first playoff DQ Big Game of the Week could be a great one. It features a pair of opposites. Southlake Carroll has made the playoffs for 18-consecutive seasons; 5 State Championships this century and 8 titles overall – in other words; excellence, thy name is Carroll High. On the flip side is McKinney. The Lions with no bite and very little roar over the years. The Lions' last playoff game was in 2009 and their last winning season – that was back in 2004!

But a funny thing happened on the way to McKinney’s thirteenth consecutive losing season; coach Jeff Smith and company have flipped the switch. The seniors decided they didn’t want it to end like that and MHS finds itself 7-3 and with a real chance at extending this thing into round two of the playoffs. They’re doing it behind the best running back the school has ever seen.  You may have heard the name Matt Gadek. That’s because just a few weeks ago he set the Texas UIL rushing record for yards in a game with 599 against Plano East. That’s a decent ‘year’ for a lot of runners and this cat did it in one game! Gadek’s gone for over 2,000 on the season and has over 5,100 rushing yards for his career. Those kinds of numbers will get you attention, awards, accolades, and wins.
