Is time running out for more coaches than we thought? Five questions from college football Week 10
ASKING THE BIG QUESTIONS FROM WEEK 10 OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL IN TEXAS.

Did we see the fortunes of three FBS head coaches change? Kliff Kingsbury's Texas Tech lost a late lead and then floundered in overtime to fall to Kansas State 42-35 in Lubbock. Kevin Sumlin's Texas A&M got outclassed 42-27 by Auburn in College Station. David Bailiff's Rice was blown out of the water 52-21 by UAB. Tech needs to win two of its final three games against Baylor, TCU and Texas to reach bowl eligibility. Texas A&M is in better shape, with five wins and New Mexico, Ole Miss and LSU remaining. Sure, the Aggies could win all three, but if they lose all three, things could get dark quickly for their head coach. Rice has one win on the season and just got blown out by a team that didn't exist as recently as 2016. The Owls most certainly will be large underdogs against Southern Miss, Old Dominion and North Texas. With Sean Kugler already out at UTEP, could we end up with four coaches ousted from FBS programs by the end of the season? Probably not, but the walls are certainly closing in for those three. Where can D'Eriq King take the Cougars from here? Major Applewhite traveled a winding road to find his quarterback, but it's definitely King, who threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another in the Coogs' 52-27 win over East Carolina. By the end of the game, the CBS announcers were comparing him to Greg Ward Jr. A second coming of Ward would be music to the Houston faithful's ears. Unlike a few of the other FBS teams in the state, we won't get to see much more of King since the Coogs only have two regular season games left. But many of the offensive woes have been neutralized since King took over under center, and the only question isn't about the future, it's about how different this season would have looked if he had been the quarterback from the outset. Mean Green's going bowling, so can they win the division next? With the win over Louisiana Tech, North Texas is in the driver's seat in the C-USA West. Only UTEP, Army and Rice remain on the schedule. Good news, right? The bad news is if Seth Littrell's bunch wins out, they'll likely earn a rematch with Florida Atlantic. But let's focus on those next three before we get too bummed out. The point is this: Mean Green's going bowling and their division and conference fates remain well within their grasp. Baylor won a game! Will it be the last in 2017? The long nightmare is over in Waco. The Bears' 38-7 thumping of Kansas helped relieve the mounting anxiety over the threat of a winless season, but also offered a little hope for the future. The near future may be tough sledding, though. Matt Rhule's bunch finishes the year at home against Texas Tech and Iowa State before finishing on the road against rival TCU. None of those looks like a win right now, but maybe getting out of the cellar will spark a surprise somewhere in that group. Is TCU ready for the showdown with Oklahoma next week? No matter who wins in Norman, we're likely headed for a rematch in the Big 12 title game a few weeks later if both teams win out in the following weeks. Which in some ways takes a little of the shine off the first clash. That's what the Big 12 wanted, right? Anyway, no defense (save Iowa State and maybe Texas on occasions) has looked as stingy as TCU's in conference play, which would seem to give the Frogs a slight edge. However, the offense hasn't quite looked the same in back-to-back games against the aforementioned defensive stalwarts. Can the Frogs find their offensive mojo in time to stun the Sooners?
