Hitchcock, East Chambers ready to battle for district supremacy

Taco Bell and Dave Campbell's Texas Football have teamed up to feature one must-see Texas high school football matchup each week in the Houston area. This week: Hitchcock vs. East ChambersT, 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Buccaneer Stadium.

Hitchcock and East Chambers have rolled through District 12-3A with relative ease so far this season. Both teams have allowed less than 20 points in three district contests while outscoring their opponents by an average of more than three scores, and both teams have a 3-0 record in district play. So when the programs meet in the Taco Bell Road Tour game Friday night, something has to give. Only one will walk away in the driver’s seat of the race for a district championship, clinching at least a share of the trophy with the regular season in its final stages. East Chambers is back in position to make some noise at the top of the standings after winning just one district game last season while Hitchcock was one of three 4-1 teams atop the standings last year before advancing as the champion based on tiebreakers. The Bulldogs have never won back-to-back district titles and will have the opportunity to do so. But East Chambers and workhorse freshman running back Ernest Ceasar (526 yards, 7 TDs) will look to put a damper on those hopes while aiming for a championship of their own. If Hitchcock is able to adjust to playing on the road this time around and continue to play suffocating defense, the Bulldogs will have a good opportunity to make program history with their first back-to-back district crowns. The Buccaneers only losses this year have come to Hamshire-Fannett and Newton while Hitchcock’s three losses – East Bernard, Shiner and Concordia Lutheran – have a combined record of 19-3. If last year is any indication, East Chambers will have plenty of motivation to come out fast after falling to Hitchcock 45-14 late last season. With the district championship along with potential playoff seeding on the line, the game is certain to have an electric postseason atmosphere.
