District statements, wild weather and realignment news highlight six-man's Week 7

Each week, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football six-man insider Leman Saunders offers his thoughts on the six-man weekend that was. -Aspermont served notice to District 10-1A DII by taking down Throckmorton, 80-30. Sophomore RB/CB Rowdy Bradley ran for 313 yards and nine touchdowns on 25 carries — and added a touchdown pass as well. The win puts the Hornets in the dearly driver’s seat for the district title; meanwhile, Throckmorton is under pressure against a talented but young Lueders-Avoce squad this week. -Aquilla crushed archrival Abbott 66-16 in District 14-1A DI action. The Cougars’ backfield tandem of Zack Winder and Jacob Felan was too much for the Panthers’ defense to handle — Winder ran for 253 yards and four touchdowns, while Felan racked up 212 yards and four scores of his own. -Hermleigh beat Ira in District 5-1A DI play, 46-30, in a game that holds major playoff implications. Ira, Hermleigh, Klondike and O’Donnell will battle for the runner-up spot in the same district with top-ranked Borden County, who remains the odds-on favorite to repeat as district champs. -District 3-1A DII got going with a low-scoring affair as Lazbuddie took down Cotton Center, 15-6. Lightning caused at least one delay, and fear of severe weather resulted in a second-half running clock. Lazbuddie will face off with Whitharral this week with a playoff berth likely on the line. -Trailing 50-36 in the fourth quarter, Blanket mounted a wild comeback to take down Lometa, 51-50, in non-district play. Both teams are now 5-2 on the season and will enjoy an open date before district play next week. -May and Blackwell both debut in TexasFootball.com’s rankings this week. May is 7-0 after a resounding 62-16 win over Knox City, while Blackwell stayed perfect with a 52-0 win over Santa Anna. Both are off this week before district play fires up next week. -In realignment news, three schools have recently confirmed that they intend to join Class 1A and play six-man football next year — Morton, Perrin-Whitt and Leakey. They’ll join Bronte, who confirmed their intentions to move from 11-man to six-man at the start of the season.
