Richland Springs relishes the spotlight, bizarre finishes and underrated teams in six-man's Week 6

Each week, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football six-man insider Leman Saunders offers his thoughts on the six-man weekend that was. -In the DQ Big Game of the Week on Fox Sports Southwest, Richland Springs proved to be in top form, toppling Sterling City 56-6 in one half. The Coyotes needed just 13 plays to the Eagles’ 29, outgaining them 238-107 with all of their yards coming on the ground. Hutton Lusty ran for 141 yards and scored twice on just three carries, while Walker Tippie ran for 100 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries. Tippie also returned the opening kickoff for a score, and Jordan Burkhart added an interception return for a touchdown in the impressive victory. -In one of the state’s top matchups, Valley took a slim 10-point lead into the fourth quarter, and it seemed as if Crowell had gained the momentum. But Valley stepped up its game, holding the Wildcats scoreless and soaring to an emphatic 62-36 win. -Oakwood scored a big win over Abbott in a 42-30 slugfest. It was a relatively low score for six-man, though the game featured 800 yards of total offense. Ethan Edgemon was all over the place for Oakwood, scoring five of his team’s six touchdowns and throwing another. Oh, and he also returned a kickoff 53 yards for the final score of the game. -The White Deer vs. Follett game was stopped late in the second quarter due to a long lightning delay, officially going in the books as a weather cancellation. That means White Deer remains unbeaten at 5-0 and still hasn’t allowed a point …even though Follett led the game 24-14 at the time of the delay. -Lorenzo moved to 6-0 on the season, defeating previously unbeaten Silverton 54-48 in overtime. The Hornets now head into a tough district with Ropes, New Home and Meadow — a hard road to travel for a playoff berth. - Tioga held a small 20-14 lead right before halftime in its game with Fort Worth THESA. However, Tioga’s head coach felt that the referees had lost control of the game and decided to take a knee to run out the clock on the half before forfeiting the contest at halftime. Tioga’s main concern was player safety; the coaches felt it would be better to take a loss than risk injury due to escalating problems on the field. -As we start to move into district play: May, McLean, Medina, Marfa and Lorenzo are undefeated yet unranked squads in Division I, while Blackwell is the only Division II team to own that distinction. Now that district play has arrived, maybe some people will take notice.
