Horned Frogs winning and Oklahoma losing means TCU is in the driver's seat for the Big XII

TCU won the weekend

Considering everything that went into the weekend, it’s hard to argue that anyone is partying harder than No. 8 TCU. Not only did Fort Worth host ESPN College GameDay Saturday morning, not only did the Horned Frogs play up to their nationally televised stage, but now they sit atop as the primary front-runner in the Big XII race. Sure, Texas’ double overtime win over Kansas State was big, but once No. 3 Oklahoma was upset by Iowa State, 38-31, TCU and No. 23 West Virginia were playing for the right to be in the driver’s seat of the Big XII Conference with the Horned Frogs eyeing a Top 5 national ranking pending a win. All eyes were on the quarterback battle between WVU’s Will Grier and Kenny Hill from TCU. The match-up lived up to the billing as Grier threw for 366 yards and three scores. But someone must’ve told Kenny Hill the final score of the Sooners-Cyclones game because the senior quarterback did everything he could in the third quarter to lift TCU to the 31-24 win. He threw a touchdown pass, caught a pass and score the game-winner on the ground with a diving effort at the goal line. After the game head coach Gary Patterson simply said, “That’s what seniors are supposed to do.” Even after Patterson’s offense was outgained and his defense was torched by Grier and running back Justin Crawford (111 yards on 19 carries), the 57-year old coach admitted that winning ugly is still winning. “If you’re going to win championships, as a general rule — and this has been every year I’ve been here for 17 years as a head coach — you win about three or four that are ugly,” Patterson told the Star-Telegram’s Carlos Mendez. “You’ve got to win the ugly ones sometimes.” The debate was settled after the Oklahoma State game, TCU is indeed a challenger for the conference title this season. Now after this weekend, a new one can begin, are the Horned Frogs National Title contenders? We’ll find out. One last question, though? Does this mean TCU can officially refer to the Mountaineers as "Western Virginia" now? WVU fans, please advise. Or don't, that's fine too. https://twitter.com/RedditCFB/status/916692312587161600
