The must-see Thursday night Texas high school football games for Week 6
EVERY WEEK DURING THE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON, BRADY KEANE PICKS OUT THE BEST THURSDAY GAMES AROUND THE STATE. IF YOU'RE NEAR ONE, GET YOUR FOOTBALL WEEKEND STARTED EARLY.

District action is rolling across the state now for just about every team, which means playoff positioning is on the line from here on out. Get your football weekend started early with these quality Thursday night matchups: CC Veterans Memorial (5-0) vs. Flour Bluff (4-0) Veterans Memorial continues to roll through the early part of its schedule after adding a dominant 49-12 win over CC Miller last week. The Eagles are clicking on both sides of the ball, but it’s a defense giving up just over 8 points per game that’s made Veterans Memorial so hard to compete against. Flour Bluff will be coach Cody Simper and company’s toughest challenge to date, as the teams meet in the opening game of District 30-5A South Zone action. The Eagles will continue to get the ball to running back Frank Jones (699 yards, 11 TDs) in this one, as the senior has gone for at least 100 yards in all five games this season. Veterans Memorial will need to do a better job protecting the ball though, as the team turned the ball over six times in last week’s dominant win. The Hornets’ offense, headlined by the trio of Braden Sherron, Devin Burlingame and Simeon Wells in the running game, will make the Eagles pay for similar mistakes. Flour Bluff won this game 70-6 last year, so Veterans Memorial has plenty to play for as they look to make a statement in the Zone opener. Frisco Wakeland (4-0) vs. Frisco Reedy (4-0) After going 3-7 in its first varsity season last year, Reedy has already surpassed that mark with four straight wins to open the year. They will take on the only other unbeaten Frisco ISD school, Frisco Wakeland, looking to turn some heads in District 13-5A against a team that went three rounds deep in the playoffs last season. Wakeland is coming off a 49-23 drubbing of Dallas Wilson and has yet to play in a game decided by less than three touchdowns, while Reedy controlled Princeton 49-21 last week. Reedy will put the ball in the hands of junior quarterback Josh Foskey, who has thrown for 1,027 yards and 11 touchdowns without an interception this season. His top weapon, Sean Hall, is averaging seven catches and more than 80 yards per game while Justin Gipson (503 yards, 5 TDs) has provided balance on the ground. Wakeland quarterback Dylan Cadwallader (1,024 yards, 16 TDs, 0 interceptions) has put up equally as impressive numbers, and he’ll look to get the ball to his top receiver Tre Adams (335 yards, 6 TDs), who will provide a matchup problem in the Reedy secondary. Adams committed to Arizona on Wednesday night. Lubbock Estacado (4-1) vs. Shallowater (4-0) Class 3A Shallowater will host Class 4A Lubbock Estacado looking to bounce back from an overwhelming 63-7 loss to the Matadors last season. They’ll have to do so without one of their top playmakers though, as dynamic WR Koby Wood suffered a torn ACL last week. That will put more pressure on quarterback Cutter Sparks, who has put up efficient numbers early this season and was a finalist for the Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week award earlier this season. The running game, led by Brody Hendrick and Zachary Aragon, will be key in making up for the loss of Wood as Hendrick and Aragon rushed more than 300 yards and five touchdowns last week. Estacado has a balanced offensive attack that has given opponents fits this season, as the Matadors are averaging 48 points per game. Jeremiah Dobbins (537 yards, 5 TDs) and Kamadrick Williams (525 yards, 2 TDs) lead the way on the ground while Bo Sims (988 yards, 7 TDs) has been explosive through the air with WR Ashton Williams (472 yards). It’s the final non-district matchup for Shallowater before District 1-3A play while Estacado has another week of non-district action with a playoff spot already secured in the unique four-team District 1-4A.
