Borden County shines, Iredell makes history and offense rules in six-man's Week 3

Each week, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football six-man insider Leman Saunders offers his thoughts on the six-man weekend that was. -Borden County has given everyone the blueprint on how to stop Calvert’s great second-half comebacks: “45” them at the half! The Coyotes turned in an impressive 62-0 halftime mercy-rule victory over a very good Calvert squad. Borden County is now 3-0, and has outscored opponents 168-0. -Klondike turned in another big upset win, this time over ranked Grandfalls-Royalty. It’s the second straight “upset” win for the Cougars after beating Water Valley last week. They’re a dangerous 2-1 squad. -Iredell beat Gordon for the first time in more than 50 years (1966), but what makes it even more impressive is that the Dragons also pitched a shutout, winning 50-0. It’s the first time they’ve ever shut-out Gordon in their rivalry dating back to the 1950s. -On the private school front, Granbury North Central Texas Academy beat Dallas Tyler Street 110-100. While that sounds high-scoring, the 210 combined point total wouldn’t crack the six-man top five list. -Cranfills Gap won an 82-76 thriller over Mullin thanks largely to Ethan Pierce, who racked up 500 total yards. He ran for an astonishing 10 touchdowns, and also threw for a score. -Colt McCarley turned in an equally impressive night in a battle of Panhandle powerhouses as top ranked Happy defeated ranked Valley, 84-56. McCarley accounted for 533 yards of total offense, running for six touchdowns and throwing for another four. -Fannindel racked up 769 yards of total offense —413 rushing, 356 passing — on just 37 plays in a 106-56 win over Campbell. Three players ran for more than 100 yards, led by Layne Miller’s 140…which was in addition to his 356 yards passing.
