Have an idea for an angle? E-mail DCTF managing editor Greg Tepper.Today: Shutouts during the 2016 Texas high school football season During this series, we’ve examined a number of different sectors of Texas high school football that have all seemed to point to one immutable truth: this is an offensive game. Whether it’s the general increase in scoring or the fact that we had five of the highest-scoring games in Texas high school football history (11-man, at least), Texas high school football has become a sport predicated on scoring points first and figuring out the rest later There are exceptions, of course. Virtuoso defensive performances still occur every week across the Lone Star State. And there is no more emphatic illustration of defensive dominance than the shutout. During the 2016 Texas high school football season, there were 1,060 shutouts across all levels — slightly down from 1,080 in 2015 but a noticeable increase from 999 in 2014. But let’s dive a little deeper into these numbers. First, let’s break them down by week — when did the most shutouts occur?
