Have an idea for an angle? E-mail DCTF managing editor Greg Tepper.Today: Texas high school football’s top receivers in 2016 Of all the positions on the field, I think I enjoy talking about and breaking down receivers most. The reason is simple: they can be valuable in a variety of different ways. There are home run hitters — burners who can take the top off the defense and score from anywhere on the field. There are mismatches — physical freaks who can outleap and outmuscle defenders to bring down the ball. There are technicians — guys who become valuable through crisp routes and reliable hands. And, of course, there are blends of all of these. That’s what makes it both fun and dangerous to compare numbers when it comes to Texas high school football receivers. It’s very difficult to discern which players were the most valuable, as being prolific and being valuable may not move in lockstep. But Texas high school football — especially in the offseason — is a talking sport, and breaking down the numbers from the sensational group of receivers across the state is a venture worth taking. A caveat you should acquaint yourself with: Texas high school football statistics are not monolithic. Unlike the NFL or even college football, there is no one-stop shop for Texas high school football statistics. Some places, like our friends at MaxPreps, are better than most, but no place is perfect. I’ve tried my best to find every player’s numbers who should be mentioned here, but it is entirely possible that I missed somebody. If that is the case, please e-mail me and I’d be happy to amend the piece. Without further ado, here are the top 10 statistical receivers in Texas high school football in 2016.
