Here are the games I’d attend in each 11-man classification. Class 6A: Desoto at Duncanville There isn’t a group of untouchables in Class 6A this season. The perennial contenders all have question marks, outside of maybe Allen. And with DeSoto going Division II once the playoffs begin, the Eagles are primed to make a run at a state title. A six-point win over Midland was the smallest margin of victory for DeSoto this season. The Eagles sport blowout wins over potential Class 6A Division II rivals Denton Guyer and Cedar Hill. Duncanville hopes to play spoiler and murk up Class 6A even more before the playoffs begin. The lone loss for the Panthers was by four points to Cedar Hill three weeks ago. Class 5A: Pflugerville Connally at Cedar Park The Timberwolves are quietly building momentum towards another state championship run. They’ll face one of the programs excelling in newly formed District 19-5A. A move to Region III was unfortunate for the Timberwolves. So was the fact that Cedar Park was expected to go Division I once the playoffs started. Enter Pflugerville Connally. The Cougars are undefeated and in the playoffs. Combine that with Rouse’s success and it is looking more likely that Cedar Park gets a chance to defend the Class 5A Division II championship. This game gives Cedar Park a chance to remind schools that it’s the best Class 5A program in the area. Connally gets a chance to validate the undefeated start and claim a district championship. Class 4A: Wimberley at Geronimo Navarro The No. 5 ranked team in Class 4A Division I comes off an open week to host fellow district title contender Wimberley. Navarro is 7-0 this season, outscoring opponents 322-92 over that span. The Panthers have wins over Refugio and La Grange, but might face their toughest test of the season this week. Wimberley is a quality football team with one blemish against Giddings in the second week of the season. The Texas are 2-0 in district play, outscoring those opponents by a combined 88-23. Class 3A: Hallettsville at Altair Rice Consolidated At least a portion of a district title is on the line in District 14-3A Division I. Two undefeated teams square off for bragging rights and seeding advantages once the playoffs start in a few weeks. Hallettsville is the favorite with an 8-0 record and a non-district win over Shiner. The Brahmas have shut out three opponents and have yet to give up 100 total points on the season. Altair Rice Consolidated is also strong on defense. The Raiders are undefeated but play Hallettsville, Edna and Yoakum to close out the season. Class 2A: Crawford at Goldthwaite The best small school game of the week takes place in District 7-2A Division I with No. 6 ranked Crawford traveling to face a game Goldthwaite program that isn’t beyond pulling the upset. Goldthwaite started the season with an exclamation point, beating Mason. Two weeks later some of that momentum was derailed in an overtime loss against Little River Academy. Still, Goldthwaite outscored its first seven opponents 200-86. Crawford began the season with a two-touchdown loss to Tolar before turning it around with seven straight wins by at least 27 points. Crawford beat its last three opponents by a combined score of 154-0.
