Both teams enter with 4-0 district records, and while PSJA North is the undefeated team, Edinburg Vela is the favorite. Vela was shaky in the first two weeks of the season. The Sabercats pulled off the one-point overtime win over Victoria East in Week 1 before a blowout loss to Edcouch-Elsa in Week 2. Since then, Vela is outscoring opponents 225-60 over a five-game winning streak. PSJA North’s defense must shine for the Raiders to be victorious. PSJA North allowed 14 points in a win last week. It was the first time an opponent scored double digits all season against the Raiders. Del Rio at Laredo United South Del Rio can take a step towards the District 29-6A title with a road win over United South. It’d set up a showdown next week against preseason district favorite Laredo United. Del Rio is undefeated and allowed just 21 points in four district games. The Rams offense scored 53 points last week in a win over South San Antonio and 40 points the week before against Laredo LBJ. Laredo United South’s lone loss came in Week 1 to Wagner. The Panthers are undefeated in district play, including a 44-35 victory over United. Allen at McKinney It isn’t easy for Allen to make a statement. When the Eagles pound an opponent, it’s supposed to happen or the other team isn’t truly a state contender. When the Eagles struggle, it means the end of a reign. Yet, Allen took care of business in an impressive fashion last week’s 42-7 victory over Denton Guyer. Allen is 7-0 and yet to surrender more than 20 points. The offense hasn’t been held to fewer than 38 by a team from the state of Texas. A Region I championship still goes through Allen and this is a chance to see the Eagles on the road against a game McKinney squad. Pampa at Lubbock Estacado It is rare to find a Class 4A or lower matchup this late in the season, but this one could determine second place in the four-team District 1-4A D1. Levelland is the district favorite and took a giant step towards the crown with a win over Lubbock Estacado last week to begin district play, but the Matadors plan to rebound and improve to 6-3 on the season. Pampa is 1-0 in district after a victory over Borger.
