Cowboy's Six-Shooter — Six thoughts on Week 8 of six-man football
Six thoughts on six-man football from SixMania's Cowboy Parks.

In most districts, the race for the playoffs has begun, and every game counts now. However, there were a couple of very interesting games with no playoff implications. 1. Rockwall Heritage vs. Richland Springs had people talking all week. Heritage is the No. 2 team in the private school TAPPS Division I, while Richland Springs is the No. 1 team in the UIL's Class 1A Division II. I wasn't able to make this game, but I learned some things from watching the film. Heritage is good — in fact, they are one of the best teams I've seen this season — but Richland Springs is a juggernaut. The Coyotes earned another mercy-rule victory, and made themselves appear nearly unbeatable. 2. In another non-district game, Milford faced off against Garden City. I expected this to be a good game, but I don't think anyone expected a barn-burner. Garden City took a 2-point lead with 28 seconds left in the game — by kicking a field goal. Milford responded with a touchdown 13 seconds later, then got a game-sealing interception return touchdown as time expired. This was high school football at its finest. 3. It looks like the clock struck twelve on Penelope's Cinderella season. The Wolverines entered district play undefeated, but a close loss to Gholson last week and mercy rule loss to Aquilla this week, made a playoff appearance unlikely. 4. In a game that likely decided second place in District 6-1A Division II, Welch Dawson defeated Grady in an overtime battle. The 67-66 win should be a morale booster for the Dragons, but they'll need all the momentum they can get: the runner-up from this district will get Balmorhea in the first round. 5. I've talked about Happy several times this season, for good reason — the Cowboys have ridden roughshod over all opponents. They have played six games this season, and four of those games were against top 10 teams. Obviously, coach Tye Keith believes that iron sharpens iron. 6. In the Covington vs. Kopperl game, I witnessed something that reminded me why no player should be underestimated. Caleb Marbut, Covington's 5-foot-7, 215-pound nose guard, intercepted a Kopperl pass and rumbled 41 yards into the end zone, helping the Owls defeat Kopperl 53-7. Cowboy's Top 5DIVISION I 1. Happy 2. Jonesboro 3. Borden County 4. Ira 5. Zephyr DIVISION II 1. Richland Springs 2. Calvert 3. Balmorhea 4. Milford 5. Crowell
