Southlake Carroll bested rival Euless Trinity 42-28. Henderson stunned Carthage 36-28. Iraan swung up and knocked out Sonora with a 37-27 win. But with all apologies to those titans and their brawls, we're leading tonight with a historic performance just outside the Houston area. Game of the night: Magnolia 75, Tomball 54 In a state full of incredible high school quarterbacks, you'd be forgiven for not knowing much about Magnolia signal-caller Jacob Frazier. However, he's putting together a remarkable senior season, and it reached its highest peak to date with an unreal performance against Tomball. Frazier threw for 643 yards (5th all-time in state history) and 10 touchdowns (tied for most in a game with former Refugio QB Tavis Quintanilla, who set the mark in 2012). He was bewilderingly great, and his numbers this year reflect a spike in performance. He's thrown for over 2,000 yards in five games to go with 29 touchdown passes. He was a Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week nominee a couple weeks ago, and despite not getting enough votes to win, something tells me he'll get another shot this coming week. So forgive us for a moment for not picking the best clash between teams. These numbers are too crazy to ignore. Team on the riseSouthlake Carroll 42, Euless Trinity 28 The Dragons graduated a lot of playmakers. They lost to Tulsa Union to open the season. Many people thought it may just be a down year. But they've rattled off four straight wins against solid-to-very-good opponents, and the offense seems to get better every week. Team in the holeEdna 31, Yoakum 29 The Bulldogs are now 2-4 on the season. They lost by 7 to a great Cuero team. They lost by 7 to a great Hallettsville team. They dropped an 11-point result to a very good Giddings team. They've played a ridiculously tough schedule, and while it's certainly prepared them, it's also made this loss all the more bitter. There's plenty of talent on the roster, a few games left to get things turned around and – better yet – against a slate of opponents they'll be favored to beat. Five big-time resultsThe Woodlands 63, Lufkin 42 It wasn't quite the defensive performance we've come to expect from the Highlanders, but the offensive output also showed that if QB Eric Schmid and his offensive cohorts need to score during a playoff run, they can do it. Henderson 36, Carthage 28 The showcase game behind the pine curtain lived up to the hype, but the surprise was Henderson doing to Carthage what it has done to everyone else: Hit the pedal from the opening kick, and then wave through the rearview window the rest of the way. The Bulldogs' comeback came too late, but these are great teams with bigger nights ahead. Cameron Yoe 42, Franklin 38 The question all season has been: When will the Yoemen come back to earth, thanks to all the changes they went through since their fourth straight title game appearance last December? They just keep winning and putting together great performances. On the other side, the Lions keep showing they'll hang with the best in 3A DI. Iraan 37, Sonora 27 The Braves stay off the radar because of their location, but they've been astonishingly impressive so far this year, and often against opponents with bigger enrollments. The rest of 2A DII has to be on notice. West Orange-Stark 45, Kennedale 21 It turns out the Mustangs' defense isn't invincible after all. They finally surrendered points, but this was still a comfortable win over a very strong opponent. Cornel Thompson's bunch remains on track for another title game berth. Eye-grabbing scoreline of the nightFriendswood 84, Clear Falls 8 The Mustangs set a school record for points in a game, and QB Tyler Page became the school's all-time leading rusher. They're already setting themselves apart as a clear favorite in Region III of 6A DII, with really no clear challengers after six weeks.
