Head coach J.J. Calderon and the Falcons stand at 2-2 overall and undefeated in district entering Thursday’s game against Bel Air. Eastlake began the season with two consecutive non-district losses before rebounding with wins over Parkland and Riverside. After being shut out in a loss to Chapin, Eastlake has scored at least 50 points in the past two outings, led by running back Adrian Chavez. Bel Air needs an upset victory to regain momentum towards a playoff berth. The Highlanders are 1-4 with district losses to Parkland and Canutillo. Fort Bend Hightower at Fort Bend Bush Hightower, defending district champions, faces a strong test Thursday night. The Hurricanes began district play last week, knocking off Fort Bend Austin to move to 2-2 on the young season. Graduation hurt Hightower after the 2015 season, but a 52-28 victory last week was just what head coach Padriac McGinnis needed from his program following losses to Lamar and Spring. Fort Bend Bush is 3-1 and searching for a signature win early in the district schedule. The Broncos are 1-0 in district play following last week’s 21-point victory over Dulles. San Antonio Stevens vs. San Antonio Clark Both of these programs are fighting for playoff spots in District 28-6A. Most of the talk surrounding San Antonio-area football concerns Cibolo Steele and Converse Judson. While deserved, San Antonio sports talented players around the city. Two of the top 15 players in the city suit up for Stevens. Quarterback Bryce Rivers, a left-hander putting up monster numbers, is a UTSA commitment. Defender Ashton Smith’s recruiting profile is growing due to his ability to play linebacker and safety. Dunbar at Grapevine Would you like to see a team score 60 points? It is almost guaranteed to happen, as undefeated Grapevine tries to push its 60-point scoring streak to three games. The Mustangs began the season with a 29-21 victory over Azle. The offensive explosion started with a 61-point effort against Cooper, followed by 63 points against Heritage and 64 against Poly. Dunbar is 0-4, giving up at least 30 points in each loss.
