Here are a few Thursday night games to watch. Wylie East at Mesquite Poteet District 15-5A begins with two playoff contenders. Poteet sits at a respectable 2-2 with losses to Denton Ryan and Lake Ridge. The Pirates bounced back from those losses with a convincing 20-point victory against Forney to round out the non-district schedule. Head coach Kody Groves’ team is averaging over 30 points a game in wins and only 15 in losses. Wylie East’s lone loss this year came to state-ranked Denton Ryan and is coming off a win against North Forney. The Raiders scored more than 40 points in three straight weeks. Spring at Westfield Spring Westfield entered the season as the District 16-6A favorite after a 9-3 season in 2015. A 0-3 start dampened some of those expectations, but a closer look at the schedule reveals little cause for concern if Westfield wins district games. Westfield's losses to Houston Lamar, Trinity and North Shore in consecutive weeks must have the Mustangs ready for district play. Spring is 2-1 with The Woodlands as its only loss. Both teams should represent the district in the playoffs, and don't forget, this game ended as a no-contest last year after a fight broke out. Amarillo at Amarillo Caprock Amarillo Caprock is the surprise of District 3-5A entering district play. The Longhorns are 3-0 heading into a matchup with one of the district’s preseason favorites. Caprock, coached by Dan Sherwood, beat Big Spring, Bushland and Estacado in non-district play. Amarillo beat Odessa in the season opener before falling to Tascosa. Head coach Mel Maxfield had to replace 10 offensive starters from the 2015 team. Eastwood at El Dorado A title contender in District 1-6A will emerge after the first Thursday of district play for the eight-group district. Americas entered the season as the favorite with Eastwood and El Dorado in the mix for playoff spots. El Dorado lost to Frenship, but bounced back with a win over Midland Lee. Eastwood’s lone loss was last week against Odessa Permian.
