This year, both teams enter the game with new coaches looking to grab their first win in the rivalry. Richardson hired Greg Pels, a former defensive coordinator at Arlington Lamar, to replace Brian Chandler. Pearce brought in former Lake Travis offensive coordinator David Collins in June to replace Randy Robertson, who had spent the previous nine seasons as the team’s head coach. This year, the rivalry will serve as Pearce’s homecoming game. The Mustangs will host the homecoming pep rally Friday morning at 9am, and the game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
