Wow, what a week!  There were so many well-played games — and upsets — that it raised as many questions as it answered. 1: Calvert's 62-60 win over Borden County has to be first on my list.  This game was reminiscent of Calvert's 2002 title game with Sanderson, in which Calvert was trailed 32-0 at half, but came back to win it  51-46. This week, Borden County had a 48-14 lead with 3:12 left in the first half.  After one more second-quarter score, the Trojans still trailed 48-22 at half. Calvert then outscored the Coyotes in second half and rallied to win ,62-60.  A win like this over one of the best six-man teams in the state should make fans wonder — does this prove that Calvert has what it takes to win the 1A Division II championship this year? 2: Last week, I talked about Valley's dominating win over Follett.  After that show of strength, I expected the Patriots to beat Happy by a comfortable margin.  Once again, the Cowboys destroyed my prediction. With the level of play Happy is bringing, they will likely make a deep playoff run. 3: I may be called a homer for this, but I feel it's deserved: as an Aquilla graduate with a son on the current team, I've been overly critical of the Cougars in an attempt to avoid bias. However, their impressive upset victory over Mt. Calm makes me believe they are putting the pieces in place. If the Cougars can continue to improve, a win over rival Abbott — and a district title — could very well be possible. 4: Iredell has me curious. Could this be the Division II sleeper team?  They are currently 1-2, but their losses are to Jonesboro and Gordon, and the Dragons gave Gordon all they could handle. This team needs to be watched more closely. 5: Jonesboro was picked to beat Avalon by 45, but only won by 28. Some of Jonesboro's starters did not play due to injuries, but the lack of depth could prove to be a major problem for them later in the season. 6: McLean has stepped up this season, and this week's win over Paducah should boost the Tigers' confidence. It's highly possible for them to enter district play undefeated. Cowboy's Top 5DIVISION I
